SCOTT SEEK
JEFFERSON COUNTY COUNCIL
DISTRICT 5
SEEK GROWTH 4 US
SCOTT SEEK IS FOR JEFFERSON COUNTY
There are huge opportunities all around us. Jefferson County is a wealth of tangible and intangible resources that if properly molded could increase the quality of life for all of our citizens. I believe that the government should be helpful but not overbearing in our approach to the opportunities that we seize. It will be my job to help guide our county into the abundance that we deserve. Jefferson County has amazing resources which include the Mississippi River and our other waterways. It has great beauty in its rolling hills and amazing landscapes. Jefferson County’s proximity is close to the city yet has a rural feel. I believe that we have only begun to explore our possibilities.
ALREADY HARD AT WORK FOR YOU
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Scott has spent over a decade working in Jefferson County to help better the lives of our community. Scott grew up in Jefferson County and runs a successful business in Jefferson County. Scott is on a number of growth and civic minded organizations. When Scott is asked to serve he steps up and serves with pride. Scott wants to make Jefferson County Great NOW!!!
Jefferson County Growth Association
Scott Serves on the board of the JCGA and has for over nine years. He has helped to champion small businesses, shop local, build tourism, and facilitate Growth. Scott was one of the founding members of the Bottleneck Bridge Ride which brings in more than 500 cyclists every year into our beautiful county to ride and spend their time and money with our local businesses. Scott meets regularly with community leaders to work on ways to build better more sustainable growth that keeps the people at the front of mind.
Jefferson County Tourism Commission
Scott is an inaugural member and the board chairman for the JCTC. From the JCGA's tourism committee a group of thought leaders came together to build the JCTC. Scott has worked with the board since its beginning in 2020 and for over 9 years as its committee chair with the JCGA. Scott and the commission have worked with county council members to allow the JCTC to become the Destination Marketing Organization for the County. This will allow our county to receive grant funding from the Missouri Department of Tourism.
Jefferson County Park Board
Scott was asked in 2017 to be a part of the Jefferson County Parks advisory board. Through this appointed advisory position, Scott has been able to work with the county in discovering ways to help the poorly funded parks system. The county owned parks in Jefferson County do not meet the minimum standards as laid out in the Parks Master Plan. Scott has been working with key stakeholders as his district has no working county owned park. Scott believed that the people of the county should help decide and pushed for a vote for more park funding. The people voted a resounding no for increased taxes for parks which will help focus the parks on other ways to plan for growth of the county in a non-representative parks system.
Jefferson County Family YMCA
Health and Wellness are a key part of a vibrant community. Scott has been on the board and past president of the Jefferson County Family YMCA for over eight years. In that time the Y has offered programs and has served the community regardless of ability to pay for hundreds of kids and thousands of dollars. The fifth district has a legacy of Seeks in the YMCA. The current facility was built during the presidency of Scott's Dad, Bill Seek. The resiliency of the Y was crucial during the COVID crisis and Scott's Mom, Suzanne Seek was president. Both Bill and Suzanne are J Clinton Hawkins recipients. One of the highest honors bestowed upon YMCA volunteers. Scott has continued to work with the YMCA to better its endowments and prepare for capital campaigns.
Community Leadership Committees
Scott has served on many boards and committees throughout his time in public service in Jefferson County. Scott has served on the Jefferson College Foundation board; the I-55 Planning committee; the Trailnet Jefferson County steering committee; the Twin City Chamber of Commerce; The Twin City Rotary; One Voice one plan committee; St. Pius X planning committee; Our Lady School board; inagural member of the Tanglefoot association.
Scott is plugged into this community. He has spent his life in Jefferson County and has felt a calling to help make this a great place to live and work.
A Wealth of Knowledge and Experience
Scott knows health and wealth and wants his community to thrive. From early beginings as a life guard and Water safety instructor for Crystal City Municipal Pool, Scott was interested in helping people. Scott started his early career as a paramedic and volunteer fire fighter in Adair County. Scott went to college and received a bachelor of Science Biology with minor in Chemistry. He also received a bachelor of Science Nursing. After college at Truman State University he and his wife moved back to Jefferson County and started a family. Scott worked for Mercy as a cardiovascular ICU recover nurse. Later he worked as a supervisor of the recovery room and heart floor. He became a case manager at a St. Louis based insurance company. Scott received his Master in Business Administration; a series 7 and 66 and has worked to help not only the health, but also the wealth of families in his community for over 15 years. Scott understands business, people, and how they tie together for the betterment of a community. Scott is not a politician and will not act like one. He cares for and about his community.
HE IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR JEFFERSON COUNTY.
LESS TAXES, LESS GOVERNMENT MORE GROWTH
Scott understands the long game. The issues of our county are complex and require a longer vision. This can sometimes be hard to see, but it is vitally important that the plans are transparent and reduce the amount of government intervention. Scott fought against non-representative taxing during the building of the R7 high school. While he is proud of the high school; behind the scenes deals created a taxing structure that we now see has some risk. Scott fought for representative bond buying for the members of our community when the projects were just going to banked out and sold off to buyers from all over the world like China. Scott will now have to work to save that school. Without Scott's knowledge and understanding of the community, the consequences could be disastrous.
It's hard to see how shifting from a property tax to a sales tax could be good, but the long prospect of just that was in Scott's plans for the parks. Scott sees how people who are on fixed incomes with responsibly paid off houses and properties are being taxed more and more each year through increased property taxes with little regard to how they may be able to remain in their property.
Our county government does not make sense having people from my district vote on issues that affect a small group of people in a different district and vice versa. This bureaucracy needs to change. We are being hamstrung by corporate lawyers, when they know the county's reluctancy to create more municipality.
Understanding how the growth of our county through enterprise and our port system will be vitally important over the next several years. It will be greatly important for someone who is trained to deal with these entities help usher in the growth we are about to receive.
Scott Knows Jefferson County
Scott went to Crystal City Elementary; Jefferson R-7 Middle School; Festus R-6 high school. Scott's kids went to Our lady Catholic School and St. Pius X High school. Other than in college Scott and his family has always lived in Jefferson County. Scott helps coach track at St. Pius X high school. Scott is an avid cyclist that knows the contours of this county. “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them” -Ernest Hemingway
